Characterization of Rain Attenuation in 80–200 GHz From Experimental Drop Size Distributions

چکیده

The use of frequencies well into the extra high frequency (EHF) band (30–300 GHz) is a key element in 5G and beyond technologies. Rain attenuation major impairment affecting terrestrial radio links this band. In absence enough experimental measurements, rain can be estimated by using physical models radiowave scattering raindrops combined with information about raindrop size distributions (DSD). work, characterization 80–200 GHz range carried out from large database 12 years DSD gathered Madrid, Spain. for each collected minute two approaches: first one based on assumption as spherical application Mie theory, second that uses non-spherical model electromagnetic simulations consequently more realistic. main results show currently used International Telecommunications Union-Radiocommunications Sector (ITU-R) generally underestimates rain-specific attenuation; influence polarization becomes smaller negligible approaches 200 GHz; significantly varies due to spread DSD. Moreover, variability also proposed.

RAIN ATTENUATION MODELING IN THE 10–100 GHz FREQUENCY USING DROP SIZE DISTRIBUTIONS FOR DIFFERENT CLIMATIC ZONES IN TROPICAL INDIA

Rain drop size distributions (DSD) are measured with disdrometers at five different climatic locations in the Indian tropical region. The distribution of drop size is assumed to be lognormal to model the rain attenuation in the frequency range of 10–100 GHz. The rain attenuation is estimated assuming single scattering of spherical rain drops. Different attenuation characteristics are observed f...

Drop size distributions of tropical rain over south India

Drop size distributions (DSD) associated with tropical rainfall at Cuddalore in the south-eastern part of India have been measured by a JossWaldvogel disdrometer (RD–80 model) during September to November 2002. The rainfall data corrected for instrumental error, matches very well with rainfall rates measured by a self recording raingauge, at the same site. For further analysis of the DSD, the r...

Universality of rain event size distributions

We compare rain event size distributions derived from measurements in climatically different regions, which we find to be well approximated by power laws of similar exponents over broad ranges. Differences can be seen in the large-scale cutoffs of the distributions. Event duration distributions suggest that the scale-free aspects are related to the absence of characteristic scales in the meteor...

A new parametrization of the rain drop size distribution

This paper revisits the problem of nding a parametric form for the rain drop size distribution (DSD) which 1) is an appropriate model for tropical rainfall, and 2) involves statistically independent parameters. Using TOGA/COARE data, we derive a parametrization which meets these criteria. This new parametrization is an improvement on the one that was derived in [3], using TRMM ground truth data...
